The foundations of the state park
"Sofievka" in Uman has been laid in the end of XVIII century by the Polish magnate Stanislav Pototsky in honour of
his wife - greek woman Sofia. The park has an area of 170 hectares and it is by rights a masterpiece of world
landscape gardening architecture. Antique statues, picturesque pavilions, ponds, fountains, falls, underground
small river are good at any time of year. 
As
an each medieval castle, the Akkermans fortress is enveloped by
a fog of legends, riddles, secrets. For the 2500-years history the
city has seen many rulers and people, has changed more than ten
names.
During
